Here are some key suggestions, and information on a helpful book.
November 19, 2024 - During the past month, as we have remembered the anniversary of the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation, we have highlighted recent changes in Roman Catholic teachings, and how these teachings disagree with the Bible.
Many of you have told us how helpful these news updates have been. Some of you are asking this question: How can I best bear the witness of Biblical truth to my Roman Catholic family members, friends and neighbors, and others I encounter?
We begin by offering a word of caution. Witnessing to our Roman Catholic friends and relatives is not about winning arguments. Witnessing to the truth and power of the authentic Gospel from Authentic Scripture is about lovingly and respectfully presenting the truth of the Word of God.
We must rely on the power of the written Word of God and the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit. We must pray that the Lord will use our witness to change the hearts of those who are lost.
Do not allow the discussion to descend into personalities or other things that are, at the end of the day, irrelevant. Keep the focus on the truth of God's Word. Trust the Lord to use His Word, as He has promised, to accomplish His glorious purpose. We urge you to take to heart the words of the Holy Spirit given to us in Isaiah chapter 55:
Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
"For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void [that is, empty or without bearing fruit], but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:6-11)
We also recommend a book that is a very helpful resource that the Lord has used to bring many Roman Catholics to true salvation: Far From Rome, Near To God, is available from Banner of Truth publishers.
Each of this book's fifty short chapters presents the testimony of a Roman Catholic priest who came to saving faith in Christ. Each man's loving desire for the salvation of those he left behind in Romanism shines through on every page. Every Christian will benefit from reading this book, and the Biblical truth it presents can be an excellent means of witnessing to your Roman Catholic friends and relatives.
For more information on the life-and-death differences between Roman Catholicism and Authentic Biblical Christianity, we encourage you to visit the Roman Catholicism section of the Bible Knowledgebase on our website.
We greatly value your prayers for this work, and we appreciate your financial support.
