Salvation - What Is the Essence of the Gospel?

If we are to believe the Gospel, if we are to proclaim the Gospel, we must be clear on the content of the Gospel. We live in a time when much about the Gospel is unclear. Many uncertain trumpets are sounding. Many of the essentials of the Gospel are being confused, and even denied, in churches that call themselves "evangelical." Such confusion is not a minor matter. It is soul-damning. For the Gospel to be preached well and effectively it must be preached accurately.

If we are to believe the Gospel, if we are to proclaim the Gospel, we must be clear on the content of the Gospel.
We need to understand the one true Gospel. We need to understand it thoroughly. We need to believe it unreservedly. We need to guard it faithfully.
The Gospel is the Gospel because God became man and died for sinners.
The death of God the Son was planned in the counsels of God from all eternity.
Jesus died for one great, cosmic purpose - the defeat of sin.
The method of Christ's burial would give clear evidence of His bodily resurrection.
A one-hundred-pound, body-shaped, empty hardened shell of grave clothes provided the first evidence of this great fact.
"He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs" (Acts 1:3)
This is the foundational fact of the Gospel message.
We must not sow seeds of confusion. We must, the Holy Spirit enabling, proclaim it "according to the Scriptures."
