Profiting From the Word Chapter 3: The Scriptures and Christ

Chapter three of Profiting From the Word by Arthur W. Pink

Christ is indeed a "mystery" to the unbelieving world - completely misunderstood by the unregenerated mind.
Man in his natural estate deems himself self-sufficient. An individual is profited from the Scriptures when they reveal to him his need of Christ.
We learn of Him, and the reality of His person and work gain greater hold of us, only as we read the written Word, meditate upon it, and hear it preached.
We live in a time when the majority of self-described evangelicals do not believe that Jesus remained sinless while on earth. If this were true, He would be unqualified to redeem sinners.
Are we putting crowns upon our own heads that must be rightfully cast before Christ's throne?
Those who thus grow in this aspect of Biblical knowledge can say, with the Apostle Paul, "For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh" (Philippians 3:3).
It is at this point particularly that the genuineness of our profession may be tested and proved.
Christians, even in the best of circumstances, are called upon to confess, as our forebears in the faith did, that we are "strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Hebrews 11:13).
