He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name (John 1:10-12)
In this message Dr. Lloyd-Jones draws practical lessons for Christians from these verses. God the Son came into this world as a man and lived in this world in every way as we do - apart from sin. Just as Jesus' time on this present earth was temporary, giving way to permanent dwelling in glory, so it is for every believer in Him. Christ's incarnation should be of great practical comfort to every Christian living life in this present evil world. As the writer to the Hebrews declares, "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:14-16).
